Warm Super Bowl Sunday, Rain Chances Lurk Next Week

Happy Saturday, North Texas!

A beautiful start to the weekend is underway, and it’s shaping up to be a mild to warm Saturday afternoon across the region. Expect plenty of sunshine, though some thin, high level cirrus clouds will drift in as the day goes on. Winds will stay light out of the southeast, helping temperatures climb comfortably through the afternoon.

If you have plans to head out this evening, the weather cooperates nicely. Skies remain mostly clear to partly cloudy with light winds, and temperatures will gradually cool off, slipping from the 60s into the 50s by late evening across the Metroplex.

Super Bowl Sunday brings an even bigger warm up. As winds turn more southwesterly, temperatures will surge into the 70s area wide, with a few spots in our western counties and the Big Country flirting with 80 degrees. Cloud cover will be on the increase, so expect mostly cloudy skies at times.

Looking ahead to the upcoming work week, the mild pattern continues. Temperatures remain well above normal with highs consistently in the 70s. A modest cool down is showing up by next weekend, though at this point it looks minor, with highs easing back into the 60s rather than anything cold.

We’re also keeping an eye on two rain opportunities this week. The first arrives late Monday into Tuesday, bringing a chance for scattered light showers. Rainfall amounts look light, generally around a tenth to a quarter of an inch, and coverage will be spotty – not everyone will see rain. The second system, expected next Friday, has more potential. A stronger upper-level storm system moves across the region, and this one could bring a more widespread rain and thunderstorm chance. Rainfall amounts with that system could be more substantial, and we’ll be watching it closely as the week goes on.
