North Texas is settling into a long stretch of August heat, with no rain or storm chances in sight. Today brings full sunshine across the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex, with afternoon highs in the upper 90s to near 100. South winds will increase to 10 to 15 mph later today, but they will do little to ease the heat. Humidity will push heat index values as high as 105 to 106 degrees.
A Heat Advisory is in effect from 1 PM until 8 PM for much of the Metroplex. Tonight stays clear and warm, with lows only falling into the upper 70s.
Wednesday looks very similar, if not a touch hotter, with sunny skies and highs around 100 to 101. The dry, hot pattern continues through the end of the week and into the weekend, with afternoon heat index values commonly near 105.
Limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the afternoon, drink plenty of water, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets.
