A strong thunderstorm is moving through parts of North Texas this afternoon. Southeastern Kaufman and southwestern Van Zandt counties could see gusty winds, small hail, and dangerous lightning through 1:45 PM.
**Timing:**
– Impact expected through 1:45 PM
– At 1:12 PM, radar showed the storm over Mabank, near Gun Barrel City
– The storm is moving north at 20 mph
**What to Expect:**
– Winds in excess of 40 mph
– Hail up to half an inch
– Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning
**Potential Impacts:**
– Tree limbs could be knocked down
– Unsecured objects may be blown around
– Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible
**What to Do Now:**
– If you are outdoors, consider moving inside a building
– If you are in this part of North Texas, move to a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle if lightning is nearby
– If you are on or near Cedar Creek Reservoir, get out of the water and move indoors or into a vehicle now
– Lightning can strike up to 10 miles from a thunderstorm
