Super Bowl Sunday Scores Big on Warmth Across North Texas

Happy Super Bowl Sunday, North Texas!

Today’s forecast is a winner if you’re heading out to Super Bowl parties or watching the big game at a local spot. Temperatures will run unusually warm for early February, climbing well into the 70s, with a few locations across North Texas flirting with the 80 degree mark. Winds stay light out of the south to southwest, so it will feel mild and comfortable outdoors.

We will see a fairly solid canopy of mid and high level cloud cover streaming overhead, resulting in mostly cloudy skies for much of the day. Despite the clouds, it stays warm. A stray sprinkle isn’t completely out of the question, but most locations will stay dry.

Monday brings more of the same warmth as we head back to work. High temperatures will once again push toward 80 degrees area wide. Cloud cover lingers, though there may be a few more breaks of sunshine compared to today. A light southerly breeze continues to keep conditions mild.

Looking ahead to the work week, it stays very warm for February standards. Highs will generally range from the 70s to around 80 through midweek. A cold front arrives late in the week into next weekend, bringing a modest cool down. No significant cold blast is expected, but afternoon highs will settle back into the 60s for next weekend.

Much needed rain chances also return this week. The first opportunity arrives Monday night into Tuesday with light, scattered showers. Tuesday looks damp at times but not a washout, and rainfall amounts appear light generally around a tenth of an inch, if you see rain at all. A better rain chance arrives Friday as a stronger upper-level storm system moves through. Early signals suggest rainfall totals in the half inch to one inch range, with locally higher amounts possible.
