Temperatures are set to rebound quickly this afternoon as a gusty south wind ramps up. Expect highs to climb into the 60s across the region – a welcome warmup from the morning chill.

Friday’s North Texas Wildfire Danger

However, that same gusty south wind combined with very low humidity values will significantly elevate fire danger concerns, especially in our western counties and out into the Big Country. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged today, and extra caution is advised with anything that could produce a spark – think chains dragging from vehicles, outdoor equipment, or even discarded cigarettes. Conditions will be prime for rapid fire spread if any fires do ignite, so please stay vigilant.

Saturday’s North Texas Forecast Map

Looking ahead:

  • Saturday: The warmup accelerates, with highs springing into the 70s for most areas and even touching the low to mid-80s in parts of North Texas. At DFW, the record high for the date is 79°, and we’re forecast to flirt dangerously close to tying or even breaking that mark. Enjoy the spring-like feel while it lasts.
  • Sunday: A weak cold front slips through late Saturday, dropping highs back into the 60s for a cooler but still pleasant day.
  • Christmas Week: Warmth returns in full force, with highs climbing back into the 70s for much of the week ahead.
  • Christmas Day: Currently shaping up to be sunny and mild, with highs in the mid-70s – a beautiful setup for holiday outdoor activities. No precipitation is in the forecast at this time, so the dry pattern looks set to continue.
