Enjoy the Mild Air Today – Strong Cold Front Arrives Tonight for a Brisk Weekend

Good Saturday morning, North Texas!

Saturday’s North Texas Forecast Map

Make the most of today – it’s our last taste of mild weather before winter reminds us it’s here. Expect a pleasant afternoon with mostly cloudy to partly cloudy skies and highs climbing into the mid-60s across the DFW metroplex and surrounding areas. It’s a great day for outdoor plans, whether that’s holiday shopping, a walk in the park, or just enjoying some fresh air.

Rain Probabilities this Evening and Tonight

Change is on the way, though. A strong cold front will sweep through this evening and overnight, bringing a shift to gusty north winds that could reach 20-30 mph at times. Along and behind the front, there’s a chance for a few isolated showers or patches of drizzle, mainly affecting our southern and southeastern counties (think areas south of I-20 toward Hillsboro and Palestine). Rainfall amounts should be light if any occurs at all.

Saturday Night Forecast Lows

Temperatures will plummet overnight, dropping quickly into the low to mid-30s, with many spots nearing or dipping below freezing by Sunday morning. Bundle up!

Sunday’s North Texas Forecast Map

That sets the stage for a brisk and chilly Sunday – highs struggling to reach the mid-40s under partly cloudy skies, with those north winds making it feel even colder (wind chills in the 30s much of the day).

DFW 7 Day Temperature Trend

The good news? This cold snap looks short-lived. We’ll start rebounding early next week, with temperatures climbing back above seasonal norms and pushing into the 70s by mid-to-late week.

Climate Prediction Center 14 Day Precipitation Outlook

Looking further ahead, models continue to hint at a fast-moving upper-level storm system sometime next week, but available moisture remains limited, so no significant rain chances are expected at this point. We’ll keep monitoring for any shifts.

Stay warm tonight, and enjoy the weekend. -William
