Sunny and Cool Thanksgiving, December Chill Ahead

Good morning, North Texas! That cold front that swept through last night means you’ll definitely want to grab a jacket before heading out today. We’re waking up to crisp, chilly air with temperatures starting in the 40s across the area.

The good news? Wall-to-wall sunshine is on tap both today and tomorrow. The bad news (if you’re not a fan of cooler weather) is that high temperatures will struggle to climb out of the 50s this afternoon – with most neighborhoods only reaching the mid to upper 50s, and maybe a few spots brushing 60° south of I-20.

Thanksgiving Day looks just about perfect if you love clear skies and seasonably cool weather. Expect another sunny day on Thursday with highs right around 60° – ideal for turkey trots, flag football in the backyard, or just enjoying the outdoors before the big meal.

The quiet weather won’t last forever, though. Our next weather-maker arrives Saturday with a decent chance of rain and a few rumbles of thunder, especially during the afternoon and evening. Rainfall amounts look light to moderate – the severe risk is low, but enough to make you rethink washing the car.

After that system moves out, another quick shot of light showers is possible Monday. The bigger story, though, will be the colder air pouring in behind it. Starting next week, high temperatures will stall in the 40s for several days – a true taste of winter knocking on the door just in time for December.
So enjoy the sunshine while it lasts, North Texas – and maybe keep the coat handy a little longer than usual this holiday weekend. Have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving!
