From William Cole: A Winter Storm Warning has been issued in the Weather Tracker TV DFW coverage area from now until 12:00 PM Wednesday for Anderson, Bosque, Collin, Cooke, Dallas, Delta, Denton, Ellis, Erath, Fannin, Freestone, Grayson, Hamilton, Henderson, Hill, Hood, Hopkins, Hunt, Jack, Johnson, Kaufman, Lamar, Montague, Navarro, Palo Pinto, Parker, Rains, Rockwall, Somervell, Stephens, Tarrant, Van Zandt, Wise & Young Counties in North Texas.
Mixed precipitation, primarily in the form of freezing rain and/or sleet is expected. Total ice or sleet accumulations between one quarter and one half of an inch are possible. Pockets of heavier sleet accumulation will be possible.

Power Grid Update

ERCOT who operates the Texas power grid just issued an update and says they are monitoring weather conditions but expects to have sufficient generation to meet the forecast demand.

Winter Storm / Ice Storm Begins Today

A Winter Storm Warning is now in effect for all of North Texas. Freezing rain and sleet will be the primary precipitation types over the next 48 – 72 hours. Bridges and overpasses will become slick initially followed by areas roads. Travel will become hazardous and may become impossible by tomorrow (Tuesday). If you have not stocked up supplies for you and your family do it quickly this morning. The newest data coming in is indicating that Wednesday temperatures may stay below freezing with freezing rain and sleet also being possible during that time as well. This is a significant winter weather event. Depending on the ice accumulations – tree limps may droop along with power lines and there may be power disruptions that develop deeper into this event.
