Rain chances aren’t dropping to zero just yet – we are keeping a lingering 20% to 30% chance for scattered showers and a few thunderstorms on the radar this afternoon, focusing primarily southeast of the Metroplex. If you have outdoor plans closer to DFW, cloud cover will gradually break up, giving us some midday sun. Thanks to that lingering clouds and yesterday’s rain, temperatures get a brief reprieve, topping out right around 90 degrees area-wide. If you are heading out to the water, southeast winds will remain light at 5 to 10 mph, meaning a very minimal chop on area lakes. Just keep in mind that the tropical humidity isn’t going anywhere, so it will still feel like 100 degrees by late afternoon.

Enjoy the lower 90s while they last, because the summer ridge roars back tomorrow. For Father’s Day, expect mostly sunny skies as afternoon highs jump right back into the mid-90s. With all that leftover ground moisture from recent rains, the humidity is going to make it feel oppressive, pushing heat indices back up to between 105 and 108 degrees. If you have outdoor cooking or family plans for Dad, make sure you are practicing heat safety, staying hydrated, and taking plenty of breaks in the A/C. A stalled frontal boundary across Oklahoma will act as a breeding ground for nightly storm complexes. In this “ring of fire” pattern, those overnight storms will try to dive south across the Red River into North Texas, bringing a renewed chance for storms almost each and every morning next week, particularly for areas near and north of I-20.
